Tampa police officer arrested after driving 134 mph on I-75, police say

Hillsborough deputies arrested an off-duty Tampa police officer Sunday on a charge of dangerous excessive speeding after he was clocked driving 134 mph on Interstate 75, according to the Tampa Police Department and a court document.

Officer Jason Brown was arrested about 6:30 a.m. by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office after he was spotted “recklessly weaving in and out of travel lanes” and driving more than 100 mph in his personal vehicle, according to a news release from the Tampa Police Department issued Monday.

An arrest report made public Tuesday provides more details about what led to the arrest.

A deputy in an unmarked Chevy Tahoe spotted a 2019 Maserati Ghibli speeding south on the interstate near East Adamo Drive. The deputy used radar to clock the car’s speed at 102 mph and tried to catch up to make a traffic stop, the report states.

“I watched the vehicle weave through traffic recklessly in a wanton disregard for everyone’s safety on the roadway, utilizing all three lanes on the interstate to pass slower moving traffic,” the deputy wrote in the report. “During this time, I reached speeds exceeding 120 mph and still had yet to catch the vehicle.”

I’ve seen some crazy shit on I-75 and I-4 (or *anywhere* in Florida, TBH), but the fact this is a cop is classic Florida… *eyeroll*

It's a 2019 so he probably got a deal on it. Our neighbor's son has a Maserati, but it's new. He trades them every couple of years.
