Lee County Supervisor of Elections Tommy Doyle set to resign before midterms

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Lee County Supervisor of Elections Tommy Doyle announced he will step down from his position on January 14, after nearly a decade in office, leaving Gov. Ron DeSantis to appoint his successor before next year's elections.

Stephen Brittain, a retired Lee County Supervisor of Elections worker who helped oversee elections for 10 years, said, "Whoever does walk in those shoes will have a big job to fill."

Brittain emphasized the importance of accuracy in the role, stating, "The public expects you to get it right every single time."

He advised the future appointee to trust the staff's expertise while maintaining awareness of ongoing operations, saying, "You want to let the staff do what they're good at doing, so you don't micromanage, but you do have your finger on the pulse of what is going on."
