DE-HD20: Democrat Alonna Berry Wins District 20 Special Election

Election officials say the turnout for Tuesday’s District 20 special election was the highest turnout for a special election that they’ve recorded. Unofficial results posted by the Department of Election show Democrat Alonna Berry won with 4653 votes to 4532 for Republican Dr. Nikki Miller.

Berry and Miller were running to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Representative Stell Parker Selby in June. Parker Selby was re-elected in November of 2024, but suffered a medical issue in December and was absent for the entire first half of the 153rd General Assembly session. Berry will fill the remainder of the two year term which ends in November 2026.

On Thursday, August 7, the Canvass of the Special Election by the Board of Canvass will be done at the Sussex County Court House at 10am.
