Democrats to host RD 20 forum in Lewes ahead of special election
LEWES, Del. - Democratic candidates vying for the vacant 20th District seat in the Delaware House of Representatives will take part in a public forum on Thursday, July 3, at the Lewes Public Library.
The Sussex County Democratic Committee announced late Tuesday, the event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is open to all registered Democrats. However, only candidates who live in the 20th Representative District may participate. That includes parts of Lewes, Milton, Nassau, Pine Town, Belltown and sections of Harbeson and Georgetown.
The forum comes in the wake of Rep. Stell Parker Selby's resignation, which was prompted by a serious medical emergency. Parker Selby, a Democrat from Milton, was the first African American in Delaware history elected from Sussex County to the state House.
After the forum, members of the 20th RD Democratic Committee will immediately choose a nominee to represent the party in a special election. The date for that election has not been finalized but is expected to take place in early August.
