Rangers remove illegal marijuana cultivation site from Sequoia National Park

National Park Service law enforcement rangers, in cooperation with special agents from the Bureau of Land Management, removed an illegal marijuana cultivation site in Sequoia National Park last week.

A total of 2,377 full-grown marijuana plants and approximately 2,000 pounds of trash and infrastructure were removed by hand and helicopter sling-load operations. The site also contained a semi-automatic pistol and several hazardous chemicals, including about one gallon of Methamidophos, a highly toxic insecticide banned in the United States since 2009.

Law enforcement rangers detected and raided this cultivation site in 2024, but the site was not rehabilitated until this year due to the presence of hazardous chemicals. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Please call the NPS-wide Tip Line at 888-653-0009 with any tips on illegal cultivation on park land.

Damage to the approximately 13-acre area includes:

2. fucking legalize it and you wont have this problem - Do you ever hear of illegal potato grows?

expect this problem to continue as long as a plant is illegal and desirable. They treat weed like its a cross between kryptonite and pure gold. no wonder people are trying to grow everywhere. Let the farmers grow it and let us have 5 dollar/oz weed. This situation is insane.

4. If a random farmer anywhere in this country tried to plant a few acres of weed, what do you think would happen?

5. This is California and it is legal on your own land with permits.

It is legal to grow six recreational plants on your property for personal use without a permit; you can grow more with a medical card.

Legalize it and the illegal grows stop. Otherwise expect more mayhem.

11. I think the plant count limit is out

And now it is a total Canopy limit of 100 square feet indoors and/or outside, which is only 10'x10', and that limit might be per household not per adult. Not sure about medical but the rules were tightened in 2019 as part of "legalization" in California. Those are the no permit rules, no idea what is allowed with registering.

9. Ya, the high cost of legal weed is due to the ridiculously high taxes

Meanwhile, black market prices keep plunging due to the glut of home grows. The only 'winners' here are the corporate interests, and the tax collector.

8. These grows are usually run by Mexican cartels

They often coerce victims to work the grows, under threats to them and their families.
