Late-night noise latest tactic used in LA immigration protests: 'No sleep for ICE'

The clanging of pots and pans. The steady thud of beating drums. The honking of passing cars with waving flags sticking out of the window. Bands playing traditional Mexican songs. Speakers shouting into megaphones. Chants coming from dozens of people.

All unfolding into the middle of the night outside the Home2 Suites by Hilton in Montebello, California, in late June.

The goal of this latest protest? Make as much noise as possible to try and keep U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers from sleeping and force them elsewhere.

“They were just making noise, playing music, and some people were dancing,” said Verita Topete, a leader of the immigration committee with Centro CSO, who took part in the protest. “A lot of people were holding signs saying, ‘ICE is not welcome here.’”

Very creative. I love it! Great job, LA, keep it up! Good trouble!

At least at the Glendale Hilton, the fed cars are in a garage. I'm guessing they in protected spots at all of these LauraInLA Jul 2025 #7

Esp. the MX music blaring. The tuba, horns and more 'cowbell baby' should have an impact. I suspect the buggers take Ambien or other stuff after plenty of booze to get knocked out. Hats off to the persistence in tracking and creatively causing sleep nearly impossible / miserable. Serves them right. Reminds me of a looney toons carton with Daffy Duck constantly harassing the salesman who just
wanted to sleep.

Don't cut up the tires, that's just destructive. Instead, just unscrew the valves and toss the pieces.

Slow leak…no destruction. We used to do this to people when I was a kid. They take off the cap to refill the tire., stone usually falls out and they’re left wondering what happened.

hotels. And I don’t recommend damaging property . But it has been really satisfying making joyous noise outside. And other hotel patrons have told us they appreciate our action.
