City of Fort Smith sets community meetings on special election regarding sales tax revenue use
FORT SMITH -- Officials will hold three community meetings ahead of the May 13 special election regarding the city of Fort Smith's sales tax revenue use, with the first meeting set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Fort Smith Public Library Main Branch.
Thursday's meeting will be held in the Community Room of the library, located at 3201 Rogers Ave. The three meetings are open to the public and are meant to share information about the proposed Sales & Use Tax Ballot, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the city.
The ballot will not include new taxes or tax increases, according to a city news release issued Monday.
The measures on the ballot specifically address sewer infrastructure improvements mandated by the federal consent decree by using the existing 2% sales and use tax. Residents are encouraged to participate in the special election to decide on important city issues, the release states.
