Meet Bernie's Mittens

Last edited Tue Aug 26, 2025, 11:33 PM - Edit history (1)

This male tan jumping spider (Platycryptus undatus) reminds me of the Bernie Sander's Mittens meme. While the genus is stuck with the bland tan appellation, I'm naming this particular spider Bernie's Mittens. He was a very cooperative subject!

8. Love his face in the photo. Amazingly teeny tiny things, aren't they?

I took some last summer of one living on my dill I let go to flower for the caterpillars.

9. They are. Close-up photography favors them; their appealing faces don't set off the spider! alarms

You have a gift, Mousetoescamper, for presenting living things as they really are, absent human fear and prejudice. "Bernie's Mittens" is perfect.

Thanks. Mostly, I'm interested in my fellow Earthlings and enjoy exploring my immediate world with a camera at hand.
