Grumpy Old Guy
(3,838 posts)She ran away from her owners on the 4th of July, and I picked her up about nine days later. We had her for twelve years. She was terrified of fireworks and other loud sounds.

(20,627 posts)Poor baby. I know some dogs are very frightened loud noises. It seems to be a common problem. At least you were able to give her a loving home where she could feel safe most of the time.

(9,637 posts)humans don't deserve dogs. such a blanket statement was incorrect, many do deserve dogs, and this superb photo proves it!

(3,838 posts)I've owned eight dogs in my life, six since we've been married. We haven't been without a dog since 1986. Chica was a stray that was strolling by our house.

(69,590 posts)The juxtaposition of bad ass older looking guy with a tiny adorable doggie.
The doggie and bad ass guy love each other very much.
Tiny doggies trusts and adores the crunchy bad ass guy who would always protect and take care of doggie.
Bad ass older guy is ruggedly handsome.
Tiny doggie is beautiful and adorable.
Photography is also amazing, perfect angle and very good clarity.
I don't know the technical terms for it.

(3,838 posts)Yes, the whole family had a mutual love affair with this little doggy. She was a sweetie, but she was also part chihuahua, so of course she thought she was in charge. Actually, she was in charge.
She was a stray that I picked up in 2011. I often wonder if she remembered that I rescued her from a life on the streets. We determined that she had run away from her original owners on the 4th of July a few weeks earlier.
Chica was terrified of fireworks and loud noises. She was inconsolable when she would hear them. Unfortunately, in our part of L.A. neighborhood fireworks were a common occurrence. She would always come looking for me whenever they started, trembling with fear. I would do my best to comfort her, but we usually had to resort to cannabis to calm her down. Thankfully, by the time this photo was taken she was completely deaf, and was oblivious to the sounds that had terrified her for so many years.
Thanks for the comments about the photography. I was a photographer or a director most of my life. That's what I do. I think about lighting, composition, processing and image quality for even casual snapshots. I'm addicted to it. It keeps me sane in these harsh days.

(69,590 posts)Chica may or may not have remembered the specific events of the rescue, but she would have
remembered the emotional part of it. That she was lost and terrified and that you saved her,
protected her from harm. That is why she would go to you when scared for the rest of her life.
The protection/safety/adoration theme is clear in the picture as I noted, even when I did not know the back story.
Yes it was obvious as well that the technical pieces of the photo were in place.
You said it was a selfie, how did you take the picture?
Is your other hand stretched out, or is there some sort of other mechanism to snap the picture?
