Again.
I played it back in my teens.
Probably haven't played it in over 40 years.
Not sure why, I just decided to relearn it. I love how angular it is, and the changes are great.

My version is a little straighter than his, but still lots of substitutions and angluarity.
Not happy with it yet, but I'll get there.

(8,318 posts)Which is probably why I associate the song with heroin. This is the first time I've heard Monk's version. He goes to outer space with all those harmonic extensions - interesting contrast.

His playing was pretty structured (so was Oscar Perterson's) but his ability to rhythmically exchange with drums & bass was revolutionary.
He redefined jazz trio playing.
