Alien Boy - Wipers
Go and grab your guns
You got him on the run 'cause he's an alien
They hurt what they don't understand
[Chorus]
So you got to turn away
There's no other way
'Cause you're an alien
They hurt what they don't understand
[Verse 2]
Got him on the run
Go and grab your gun
'Cause he's an alien, alien, alien
Alien boy
Got no rights
No rights at all
Just feeds off the sun
[Chorus]
So you got to turn away
There's no other way
'Cause you're an alien
They hurt what they don't understand
The seventh track off Is This Real?, Alien Boy was supposedly written about or at least inspired by James Chasse, who associated with Greg Sage in the 1970s and 80s. Apparently, Chaase, a schizophrenic and an eccentric, once told Sage he felt like an alien, which inspired Sage to write the song.
Chaase was unjustly beaten to death by police in Portland in 2006. According to a report written years after the incident, his death was caused combination of excessive force and neglect. Though this song was written over two decades before this incident, it seems to eerily foreshadow his death. In actuality, however, it captures the difficult experience of a man who lived life differently from others. According to the website for the documentary on Chaase (itself titled Alien Boy), following Chaases death, Sage said,
Jim Jims conversations with me and his powerful sense of vision painted uncanny, powerful visions in my head that became a huge influence for a few songs that were later recorded for the album, Is This Real? The song "Alien Boy is one of them.
