Richard Steven Valenzuela (May 13, 1941 Feb. 3, 1959), better known by his stage name Ritchie Valens, was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter.
A rock and roll pioneer and a forefather of the Chicano rock movement, Valens died in a plane crash just 8 months after his breakthrough. Valens had several hits, most notably "La Bamba", which he had adapted from a Mexican folk song... 🪅

Ritchie Valens has been the subject of several biopic films, including the 1987 film La Bamba. Primarily set in 19571959, it depicted Valens from age 16 to 17. It introduced Lou Diamond Phillips as Valens. Los Lobos performed most of the music in the film.

Starts with that interview & ends with applause, but what we hear is the record version.
Actually played this tune in a battle of the bands. It was on the list of tunes allowed & I told the guys I knew the words in Spanish & what they meant.
So we did it. We won that year but it wasn't because of this song. But, we had fun doing it.
