I'm a huge fan of women in general, but I am most especially a fan of women musicians.

I feel that they usually make less predictable choices in how they present their musical vision, and I prefer a woman's voice in most cases as well.

Over the decade plus I've been posting here in DU MA, I've probably listed the female artists who are currently in my headphones 3 or 4 times.

This is another of those lists.

Don't get me wrong, I still listen to Heart, Joan Armatrading, Janis, Aretha, Gillian Welch, Erykah and all the others that I've profiled in the past - Almost no one falls off my play list, it just keeps growing.

But there are so many great performers that deserve more attention that I feel compelled to keep doing these...

I've posted a few threads about Jackie Venson recently, because I am charmed by this women's talent. She's solid in all 3 things I most value in a performer - Song writing, singing, and playing an instrument

Carolyn Wonderland is an absolute beast. She was the last lead guitarist for the Bluesbreakers. That band has been an ongoing concern for 50+ years and in all that time, John Mayall has never hired a mediocre guitarist.

ZZ Ward - She is mixing modern pop music textures with straight blues themes. A mix of Blue-Eyed Soul and 21st century rock with idiosyncratic vocal phrasing

It is often that we interpret our similar, supporting or different parts into something that fits together and just works. It is the best feeling in the world working together that way. In all types of music, for me classical. Doing what they are doing in all types has to be so rewarding and fun in every way.

Martha Argerich -- Rick Beato did a wonderful show on her. (I played Prokoviev 3 and the Schumann with her: a life- changing experience.)

All of my most favorite artists over the years have been introduced to me by their fans.

Very rarely do the artists getting hyped up in media make an impression on me - It has happened, occasionally but a music lover sharing a musician with another music lover is genuinely valuable to me.

My knowledge of the classical piano oeuvre is not expansive by any means...

So, I hear "great pianist", & I look to see if they have recordings of Chopin - who I at least have a decent history with

This record makes me wish a had a better grasp of the genre. I don't have the vocabulary to describe what I'm hearing.

All I can do is be impressed

Thanks for the tip - This is my lullaby today

Amazing! If you go to https://kusc.org or use their app, 8 to 12 Pacific are hosted by classical pianist Lara Downes, who often features music by, or played by, women and Black artists. Or all of the above!

Besides the "classic" classics.

Highly recommended.

And classical music overnight follows.
