Was ten years old... really changed my thoughts on music
The Madcap
(1,320 posts)You can really hear his struggles in those.

(53,369 posts)Dave Gilmore and Roger Waters were the producers on the first album then Gilmore and Wright produced the second. They really did ty to help Syd out.
The Madcap
(1,320 posts)Mainly outtakes, but it does haves some relatively finished tracks. It is interesting and worth a listen.

(53,369 posts)A Nice Pair has 2 albums in it, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and A Saucerful Of Secrets. Ummagumma is their sort of live/studio album. You can never have too much Pink Floyd!
Do you remember when they would make records that would drop from a stack on the turntable and when you would flip the stack over the album sides were 1 and 4, and 2 and 3? My Woodstock album has 6 sides like this, to confuse me even more.
I was born in 1962 but nothing can replace original albums in my opinion. Hardly anyone my age even knows about this stuff. So sad!

(1,320 posts)1. "A Nice Pair" has the live version of "Astronomy Domine" from Ummagumma instead of the studio version.
2. The original U.S. version lacked "Astronomy Domine," "Flaming," and "Bike," but included "See Emily Play." It also had a different track order.

(53,369 posts)Some bands had their records printed in the US and the UK but there are many differences, often creating confusion. The Beatles did this with their earlier albums.

(5,885 posts)Sadly, during a brief attempt at normalcy I pawned/sold all my albums in 1982 in order to get a notch in my belt at work when asked to play golf with the team.
Well, I had been bragging a good game about my hole in one (they put my name on a plaque at the club in north Tampa) and had to get a set of clubs pretty quick.
I played a lot as kid in Florida, so Im a decent duffer, but I sold my custom clubs earlier (you see where this is going, my albums were sacred), as times before the job were tough.
Anywho, long story short, I needed clubs, went to my dads pro guy where we used to golf and he custom fit a generic set in a day, $250 bucks. Man, that was way more than I made in a week at that point.
I had a decent collection. I worked and bought albums as a young hippie.
All clean vinyl. I loved my vinyl.
I had around 150 or so give or take. Went to one of the many swap places that dotted Florida at the time, found a guy and sold them all as he only offered 2 bucks a disc and he said he was being generous.
Hell, I had money to even buy a beer after in the club.
Well big shot? 43 years later, Im trying to rebuild for my listening room and the old body got bashed and battered as life sometimes goes, so golf is not on the menu, unless its chipping one in the backyard just to feel spry again.
Moments in time, thanks for letting me connect some synapses again.
Animals and Wish You Were Here are my 2 favorites for some reason

(53,369 posts)of records for drug money it the early 80s so losing yours to drugs could have been a worse memory. Tony mentioned it a lot and it nagged at him later in life. He liked US punk bands.
Last night I was trying to decide which was MY favorite one and it came down to between Animals and Wish You Were Here. I read that the band likes Wish You Were Here as their own favorite. Mine is Animals. It's for sentimental reasons, it was the only cassette I played in my car for years. When the dogs barked and howled my own dogs' ears would stick up and it made me smile.
