On a documentary about the Beach Boys, Carl Wilson said something about "the sheer joy of it [their music]". I wrote it

down, but God Only Knows where it is now.

Anyone else remember what Carl said?

Which is ironic, because Murray, their father, was a monster, a bully who beat and emotionally abused Brian, Dennis and Carl, with both Brian and Dennis traumatized for life. I know less about Carl, but from what I read it sounds like he wasn't damaged as much by their nightmare childhood.

They transcended that nightmare in their music.
