When the song came out on radio it got so overplayed I kind of got sick of it.

Every Vietnam vet I knew loved this song.
Yes it was over played because the song hit a nerve with every sort of person. Even Andy Williams and Dean Martin and all those guys wanted to sing it.
But it did drop off and I'd bet the new generations likely never heard it.

At the time there was a traveling Wall. I have no connection to the godforsaken war. Nevertheless, it was powerful to be in its presence. I learned there was a signup book for volunteers to read a list of the names aloud. I did have a chance to do so. It was pretty neat. I don't recall there being anyone to hear me, it was a night shift; but it was an honor to be there.
