The Beatles - Paperback Writer (Recorded for Ed Sullivan Show - 1966) Live

Summer of '66 — In the US, "Red Rubber Ball" spent a single week at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart at the same time "Paperback Writer" by The Beatles was at No. 1, during the week ending July 9, 1966. — youtube
(Pretty stiff competition The Cyrkle vs The Beatles! "George McGovern" of DU)

The Beatles never lip synced unless it was one of their videos they made lots of videos. . . Everything else was live . Plus Ed would not have allowed it. When you came on The Ed Sullivan show you played live or you didn't come on The Ed Sullivan show. — youtube

Well maybe I did in 1966. Everybody watched Sullivan when The Beatles were on.
But, I don't recall ever seeing it.
Pretty cool

I wanted desperately to watch but my parents both said no. As it happened it was their card game night with the neighbors. I persisted, right up 'til show—time and they gave in, however, theirs were harsh terms.

I was told to sit at the end of the couch, maybe two feet away from the 1966 TV screen. Black & white per family budget. AND to turn the sound way way down. Between the card players' chatter and the low low volume I'm not sure I hardly heard anything. Nevertheless I saw the performance and I have to say I appreciate the video on youtube moreso. Now the volume can go up as loud as my headphones will stand for!

A few years ago, a regular poster described a story about a guy yelling at him because his car stereo was too loud.
He said it wasn't loud. It was a modest volume
I asked him what he was listening to & he said Evenflow by Pearl Jam.
I told him I no longer believed his side of the story because it's impossible to listen to Evenflow at a modest volume!
