(11,467 posts)All superior and snobby towards me and it just hurt. I blocked her, thought, Jesus, did she and her group just friend me to make fun of me, like Dinner for Schmucks ? I think thats exactly what they did and that deliberate cruelty hurts.

(7,443 posts)Must be the foreground colors, and the lack of detail of the trees in the distance.
Your eyes are drawn to the foreground, then follow the water into the distance.
Visual depth is a difficult thing to capture, you did it brilliantly!
$100 for a decent size print? Please?
That frame though - doesn't do it any favors. Needs to be simpler. Minimalistic, non distracting. And no border!
LiberalLoner
(11,467 posts)Make a print yourself any size you want! I sold my work once to a nice person here but then afterwards I felt guilty and it just didnt feel good so I dont want to take money any more.
But Im cool with people downloading, printing, anything! ❤️❤️❤️

(9,166 posts)and since it's in chalk pastels, matting is a good idea to keep it from rubbing against the glass, which is reallt needed to protect it. But it is possible to put in mats that are hidden under the lip of the frame. I like matting myself, but I agree something is off about the colors of those two mats. Mats should draw the eye into the picture, not to themselves.

(3,981 posts)Very good job, it is a very good painting, congratulations. Don't judge your work yourself, allow people who love you and those who you know will be truthful to be the critics, to give you positive feedback. Also, remember that an artist is always thinking they can better what is already very good, run away from that, I have screwed up good painting for trying to make them better.
When I paint a portrait I always have my wife take a look at it and she will tell me about things that I don't see. When she says "good job" I know I have done well.
If I were you I would fire you as a critic of your own work, he doesn't know what he is saying
It is a very good painting, lots of character while projecting a very calm feeling. Keep it up, it is a very salable painting, if that is what you want to do with it.

(42,862 posts)Do you sketch it out first and then following your original sketchlines? Is this from a photo? Is it your memory of a real place, or just some peaceful and tranquil place created entirely from your imagination?
LiberalLoner
(11,467 posts)Gouache underpainting, then just looking at the painting and deciding what the painting seems to need.

Very soothing and realistic.
