Matt Damon Defends Dunkin' Product Placement In Nolan's 'Odyssey'

Actor Portrays Hero’s Return To Ithaca With Box Of Dozen Assorted Donuts



BROOKLYN, NY—Explaining that the prominent iced coffees and chocolate-glazed Munchkins were essential to director Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the ancient Greek epic, actor Matt Damon defended Tuesday the placement of Dunkin’ Donuts products in the upcoming film The Odyssey.

“Look—for a voyage that long, you’d need 50 sausage, egg, and cheese croissants, at least,” said the actor, who added that he spent countless hours consulting with historians while preparing for the starring role of Odysseus to get a sense of what the hero might have ordered from the Massachusetts-based chain in Greece during the Late Bronze Age.

“Chris agreed that it was a great idea. Every movie showcases promotional items these days, and it’s obvious that Odysseus would have treated his boys to a Box O’ Joe after winning the Trojan War. You’re telling me that crew could have gotten past the sirens and that cyclops without a little caffeine? Come on. And any guy reuniting with his wife after 20 years better bring her her favorite extra-large Coolatta. Besides, the Dunkin’-branded coolers look great on the ship.”

Damon went on to defend the decision to feature the Dropkick Murphys’ “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” so heavily throughout the film’s soundtrack.
