Terriers often pursue rabbits and other prey into their burrows. It's what they were bred to do.

Thankfully we were around to hear him yipping and got him out. He was a fairly small spaniel, but hell on rabbits. Another time he came out with front teeth missing. We assumed he'd lost them in a rabbit's hide.

It is absolutely astonishing that the dog survived.
