Can someone who has experience with mineral deposits check this facebook link?

Is this real? I know that quartz is generally an indication that gold is nearby, but I've never seen the two embedded like this:

Our water here is really hard and full of minerals. And yes, there is quartz and gold in 'tem dar hills' above where the water runs.

and the main deposits of gold is locked up in quartz in the veins. Th mine has existed for at least 145 years and possibly back as far as old Spanish prospectors, This is much different than Placer gold that the "Gold Rush" TV show ( Yukon, Alaska, etc ) show where everything is about digging up old river beds... basically earth moving with heavy equipment... scooping up tons of gold bearing earth and sending it through enormous wash plants. Gold in quartz is usually underground and hard rock mining, rock crushing, and finally washing.

Be careful that what you are seeing is actually gold, there are many iron pyrites that look like gold but, in fact, are "fool's gold". Proper assay is required to prove out any find. And, finally, no... I've never seen a rock like the one shown... not even close. Not saying it isn't possible, just it would be very rare.

I had to look.

What I see is a lot of iron stain on the quartz which tells me it's probably iron pyrite. If it was gold, the quartz would normally be white or clear or a combo but not likely stained by iron as this specimen appears to be.

Amateur rock hound here and that's what it looks like to me.
