Killing me softly (but what a way to go)

As some of you know, I have a heart condition (high cholesterol with a tendency toward sclerosis), and I'm supposed to watch my intake of foods with a high fat content. My wife knows this, and makes a special effort to cook with low fat foods and oils.

But over the weekend, we had guests over, and as a dessert treat, she took some leftover cranberries from Thanksgiving (fresh ones last a long time, but not forever), heated them up with some raspberries and a touch of maple syrup and some brown sugar, and made them up into a heated compote and served it over vanilla ice cream. If there is ANYTHING I should not have touched, it was that. It was SO wonderful, I had two portions. Then this evening, she confessed to having a few cranberries and raspberries left over, and made them into the same concoction, heated it all up, and served them to me again over vanilla ice cream.

This stuff will kill me if I don't stop eating it. But how am I supposed to stop eating THAT?????????????

I very much doubt that even three portions of this heavenly concoction would permanently damage your heart. It normally takes a bit of time to suffer such damage.

Relax, enjoy, and don't do it again any time soon!

We don't want to lose you.

Talk to your Dr., exercise according to a plan .. work out until you sweat and then 2 minutes longer
the next day, and avoid HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). And if you can get up and walk outdoors.
Posting on DU extends both the length of life and the quality of life too.

* Being born will kill you.

Btw Cranberries with Maple Syrup on pancakes are the good for you.

In the ingredients.

Plus I thought cranberries helped HDL. So sounds like you are balancing the ice cream out some. .
