A black ant bit my tongue today. How? I won't keep you guessing.
I keep a water bottle on a small shelf above the kitchen sink. It is November and in my experience, there aren't ants crawling around in November! But in November, 2025, there are ants and one was on the lip of the bottle. I took a drink and felt something like a shred of plastic on my lip. Between reflexively spitting and pawing at my mouth, I got the damned thing out, then felt my tongue stinging. I grabbed baking soda, dumped some in my hand and stuck my tongue in it, 3 times rinsing each time.
The ant, being washed down the drain, is an ex-ant.
Happy Friday to all.

(12,380 posts)Its like the time I was getting the garden hoses ready for winter
I was blowing out the hose manually by lung force with lips planted on the end
on my second inhale I sipped up a wasp that was trying to make a winter home. It stung my throat
inside!
Crazy insect stories.

I heard a story from one of my husband's uncles. They were fishing, and another guy on the dock took a swig from a bottle of soda, got stung in the mouth by a yellowjacket that had got in the bottle. I can't think of that story without flinching.

(22,401 posts)I'd just finished cleaning a battery clip in my thermostat. If the pencil eraser hadn't worked, I was going to try baking soda. I think it was on my mind
I know ants release formic acid, and thought baking soda would neutralize the formic acid.

It was a popular tune. My friend learned it during piano lessons and I bet we all hummed it at one time or another

(36,728 posts)Buy the pink tablet, not the capsule. Chew it up and put it under your tongue. Anaphylactic shock is no fun.

(22,401 posts)I didn't know. I think I'm ok. The only reaction I get after a sting is the pain. My Mom always put ammonia on stings and that killed the pain immediately. Couldn't do that today, lol
My grandkids are sensitive to stings, especially bee stings. I'll pass your tip along to her.
