Where I am, there aren't any such requirements. We just clear our walkways and leave the rest to shelter pollinators. But there are plenty of people in my town very determined to clear their yards, so the leaf blowers are going full force, endlessly, today, the last really nice day before cold weather sets in.
I understand that there are people who can't physically rake, don't have time/won't pay somebody, but I'm one of those who really hates the noise and air pollution of leaf blowers.
I complained about this on a Facebook post, and one person said leaving the leaves was against her city's code. So I wonder, is this true many places?

(5,175 posts)They spend many hours each week raking and bagging leaves, at least they seem to enjoy it...so glad I live in an apartment...I can still enjoy viewing other's yards and go to the park if I want...I guess I'm lazy but that never started me before...

(3,722 posts)Many people in my neighborhood do rake their leaves (or pay landscapers to do it), but some don't.

(17,563 posts)I don't think there's any rule about leaves unless they're sheltering vermin or something like that. My yard man never rakes. He uses a leaf blower to blow the cuttings from the walkway and the porch.
Our house is in the mountain woods of rural Pennsylvania.
I used to live in suburban Long Island, NY and I had trouble bag the leaves in a clear bag and they had to be ready for pick up on specific days. Ugh.

(2,032 posts)rake or blow leaves onto the street. But whether you have to do anything at all with the leaves in the first place is kinda murky ... it depends on whether there is a complaint for "accumulation of debris". So if a neighbor complains or the city does a drive-by you might get a citation if the leaves have piled up.

Need I say he's a Trump supporter too.

(166 posts)... where I live, are considered (by city code enforcement) exactly the same as any other tree leaves, so where they fall is your problem, nevermind there's only one palm tree on the block...
So, frondly advice, sometimes best to count your blessings...

(10,639 posts)No raking, I use my zero turn and a bagger and someone dumping them for me because I can no longer walk so good and cant keep getting on and off the mower.
Most of my neighbors on the street do something similar.

(11,148 posts)We have one tree in our yard but when the leaves start detaching the leaf layers become thick.
I like to have the leaves mulched by the lawn mower and because the leaf layers are too thick I do a little bit of raking before the lawn mowing mulching. I rake the leaves bagless to the side of the road (not in the road) and the city picks them up on certain dates with either a leaf vacuum machine or a front loader machine.
A few reasons I like the leaves mulched up with the lawn mower is the mulched leaves are a natural fertilizer for the soil and for the insect ecosystem.
Yes, our lawn mower is still noise and air pollution much more compared to a leaf blower. It is the easiest way to mulch the leaves and give back natural fertilizer to the soil and to the ecosystem.
