Any pet/house sitters out there? I am starting a new career...

And have 3 clients now.

I don’t have a lot of info on the business aspect of this industry so would enjoy talking to peeps who do.

I would also enjoy hearing from those who employ the trade for their house/pets.

I have been looking on the internet. I don’t want to sign up with an app based entity or companies like Rover at this time. I have grown from 1-3 clients via word of mouth and will continue that way until I feel ready to go at it full time.

Thanks for your input DU - a virtual brain trust that I trust!

find new pet sitters/house sitters. I NEVER use Rover. I usually find a company or person that is bonded and insured. I also look for one that will have a consistent pet/house sitter and not just their currently available employee. My dog is too anxious around strangers. Word of mouth is a great way to go if you want to start small. (I have found very few people want to share who their dog walker/house sitters is if they like them!!! They don’t want to have to share them at holiday or vacation time!!!LOL!) If they tell me they cannot guarantee the same dog walker, I move on. Hope that helps!

She has 100% indoor cats. She leaves detailed instructions for the petsitter. She uses a small company and doesn't get the same person all the time. She likes the sitters who rinse the cans and used plates, and runs the disposal so the house isn't smelly when they get home. The service has the client leave instructions on the website. When you get to billing, my daughter said she got a bill before she got home, and waited to pay until she saw all was well. The petsitting company sent her a reminder while they were still hours away from home.
My daughter likes petsitters who send a daily report, with pics (if possible). She recently set up a camera, so if the petsitter doesn't see the cats, they will show up on screen when the petsitter isn't there. It gives her peace of mind.
I hope this helps.
When I needed petsitters, I hired neighbors who liked pets. Didn't work out that great 3 of 4 people. I didn't travel when my pets were elderly. I didn't want anyone to stress if the kitty passed while I was away.

I do have billing and charge time questions to figure out. Currently known to me people are my clients and they are getting very good rates because they will be my first references and are willing to be a reference.

I feel like a flat charge daily is going to be a way to go. I might have a few more duties with some households/pets and far less with others. None of it is real hard work especially compared to what my current job is. Lol

They are near me. I just went over today, walked the dogs, played with them all. I helped other people, but it turned out I liked the pets better than the people I don't charge to watch the grand pets. I'd pay my kids to let me
My local daughter used a petsitter who didn't want anyone else asdisting with or visiting the pets. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
There is a big need for compassionate, skillful people who will petsit. I wish you good luck with your business!

I use pet services that give a photo and a report from their visit. It really helps decrease my stress levels.
