I like Ellen DeGeneris but I am puzzled by her being a spokesperson for a skin care product. I think of her as a comedienne and wonder if these ads are a breakthrough for gay women.
I'd like the opinion of other DUers here.
I am very supportive of gay men and women. I want to think of this ad as a good thing for everyone and welcome the product even more strongly because of the ad.
Welcoming other DUers opinion here...

(23,757 posts)I have always like Ellen, but I see her hawking these products as exploiting her position and her past.... I am not impressed.
Of course, I have little faith in expensive cosmetics anyways

(67,596 posts)so, that is fine with me. And maybe I am just being unenlightened. My skin care involves staying out of the sun and using a very inexpensive moisturizer for my old skin which is pretty dry now.

(10,616 posts)A few times a week its recommended to expose 40% of your body to sun with no sunscreen for around 15 minutes for vitamin D and immune health. Harvard Health recommends 10 to 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a week.
Most celebrities and shows sell products for income.

(27,311 posts)Skin care is not unique to non gay individuals, I would think Ellen's wife Portia uses skin care products and probably Ellen as well. But yes by using Ellen and Portia in a commercial, as spokepersons they could very well entice the Gay community to use the product. And yes she was well know as a comedienne, but most of all she is a celebrity with a large following. Many celebrities are hired to endorse products that have nothing to do with their careers, but more for their notoriety and popularity.
I think that's what you were saying here....... "I want to think of this ad as a good thing for everyone and welcome the product even more strongly because of the ad."
Exactly the products owner's goal.

(67,596 posts)I may just think of a stereotype that does skin care commercials. My brain is pretty old so I guess it is fixed on stereotypes.

(10,616 posts)AI says Ellens net worth is $500 million dollars but she still promotes products to make more money. How much do you need?

Ive always tried to take very good care of my skin. But as I got older (and much, much wiser), I noticed that my skin was getting drier and needed a gentler approach. So I turned to my friend Victoria Jackson, an expert and beauty authority with over 30 years in the business.
Together we came up with an easy-to-use system that works for my skin, your skin all skin types.
