Strapped for cash: why Francis Ford Coppola is flogging his watches

Later in the article:
In other words, Francis Ford Coppola is broke.
I wish I was broke like that.
But the good news is that this is an excellent time to be an obscenely wealthy watch collector. To shore up his funds a little, Coppola is holding what amounts to a hugely upmarket yard sale, in which he will sell one of his million-dollar watches.
I wonder how many mansions he owns.
AI on Duck-Duck-Go says:
Francis Ford Coppola has an estimated net worth of $400 million, primarily earned through his successful film career and ventures in winemaking. He is known for directing iconic films like "The Godfather" trilogy and has also invested in various businesses, including his winery, Inglenook.
I feel so bad for him. Perhaps he should be given some of that unspent SNAP money.

(16,905 posts)1. Francis lost tens of million$ after self-financing a flop about the "proposed construction of a glowing golden city."
Apparently, no one wants to see a movie about Trump.

(52,348 posts)2. He went broke making Appocolypse Now too.
IIRC, he got into the wine business as a back up income for his film making hobby.

Coppola likely is close to bankruptcy.
He sold his wineries and mortgaged his home(s) to raise money for his last film, Megalopolis, when no studio would touch it.
It flopped big time, winning several Razzies last year.

Those AI summaries dont include his debts, which include at least $200 million borrowed against his remaining stake in the wine business.
