Given it's Halloween and all, is anyone here a fan of the horror/suspense genre giallo out of Italy?

I’ll probably get two in here prior to Halloween. “Bird with the Crystal Plumage” tonight and not sure after that. Chime in with suggestions or just to jawbone about these sorts of films if yer so inclined.

in the scheme of things. I guess my faves are “Bllood and Black Lace” and “Black Sunday.” He was so hands on, ie creating some of the in camera effects and for the movie “Four Times That Night,” I believe he was director of photography, set designer, and lighting lighting director.

He's not a great storyteller but has incredible style. He's a master of using light, shadows and colors.

My favorites of his are Deep Red, Opera, Phenomena (featuring a young Jennifer Connely), Fly on Grey Velvet, Tenebrae (Unsane), Stendhal Syndrome, and his most famous film, Susperia. Susperia is the first of The Three Sisters trilogy, but I did not care much for them. Susperia gets the nod because of its visual style and sound design, with music by The Goblins.

He also worked on Romero's Dawn of the Dead and Lamberto Bava's Demon films. These are very good, but not giallo.

Mario Bava is usually good. His son Lamberto Bava is alright. Lucio Fulci's films are insane. I would not call them good, but they are entertaining in a campy way.

There are probably a couple dozen more directors who were active in this genre, but these are a good start.

but my favorite Fulci is “Lizard in a Woman’s Skin.” His zombie stuff really doesn’t do it for me. While we’re at it, are you a fan of the of the Sergio Martino movies he made with Edwige Fenech? I love em, and I swear half of it is the groovy interiors and the fashions. Luscious.

of any genre. Love the camerawork and lighting. Hypnotic at times.
