Oct 26

Waking up this morning to frost on the pumpkin, a report of 20 hikers from Massachusetts rescued from atop Mount Washington in New Hampshire, and a nor-easter heading up the coast on Thursday,......

My comfort food in the fall is New England Clam Chowder along with Halloween Candy leftovers

No more home maintenance is wonderful. I also like the various social activities they have here. For example, on Fridays you can sign up to go out to a restaurant for lunch and I'm very surprised that so few people do so.

Tonight is movie night in a little theater on the second floor. I think it will be some old Alfred Hitchcock movie. Jim, the guy who does the movie night, will also bring popcorn and wine. I'll bring some cookies.

On Wednesdays up in another community room there's wine, snacks, and some kind of entertainment. Not enough people show up for that.

There was a trick-or-treat thing here yesterday in the parking lot. That was fun.

Do spend as much time as you can beforehand visiting, talking to residents and staff. I hope when you do move it's good for you.

Just a french version of beef stew served over egg noodles.
It's a very satisfying dish.
The other one is seafood etouffe. Same reason
Third one is French onion soup.

Any kind of soup, Deb. Italian wedding soup. Split pea soup, white bean soup, potato soup, minestrone, Cream of tomato soup (the latter must be accompanied by a grilled cheese sandwich). Must be homemade!

Strangely enough I don’t care for chicken noodle.

These days, I try to find Impossible sausage, but you stuff the hole after you scoop out the seeds and bake until tender. Ultimate fall meal as a kid after picking a squash from our garden.

Fall arrives tomorrow! Finally - doin’ the happy dance!

Dug out the ole gumbo pot last night. Hubs is sooo excited.

A piece of French bread
With which to wipe my bowl
Good for the body
Good for the soul
It's a little like religion
And a lot like sex
You should never know
When you're gonna get it next
From midnight in the quarter to noon in Thibadeaux
I will play for gumbo
I will play for gumbo

Thank you Jimmy Buffet!😂

Edited to add - we jumped the gun on chili and cornbread last week. Fall taking too long!👍🤭

Typical recipe but with a bit of tiny bit of horseradish and an ample amount Worcestershire in the ground beef base. Got ingredients yesterday and making it midweek.

I'll eat ice cream in January when it's 6 degrees outside, and I'll eat beef stew in July when it's 98.

Now I'm hungry.

The best cornbread is Mexican cornbread with cheddar cheese and green chilis - goes so perfect with chili!!
