Several years ago, on a Sunday that was the 4th of July, I was shocked to see a huge snapping turtle on our deck. It must have been at least 2 1/2 feet long from nose to tail, and looked like a small dinosaur.
I figured some jerky teenage boys had probably put it there as a prank, and was further shocked to find claw marks on the stairs of the deck - who knew turtles can climb stairs?!

I was visiting someone in southern Massachusetts and I stepped outside to find about a dozen of these little creatures. I did the same thing, gathered them up and took them to the nearby pond. As I let them go, the last one stopped and craned its neck and looked up at me like it was saying, "cool, human!"
