If I put out a few decorations, they can tell that they're welcome to come a-knocking. But the extravagantly over-the-top lawn displays that start a month or more before the event are not for me.

We turn off all the indoor and outdoor lights.
This a rural type neighborhood with no sidewalks or street lights and too near the entrance road from town to country. No parent should allow children to trick or treat here.
Honestly, it has been decades since we heard a child out front on Halloween.

I am the one who is sorry.
No I do not decorate and it used to worry us so that parents would pop their children out of the car
at the bottom of the hill and tell them to wander from house to house for treats.
The homes are not in a row and have between 1/4 acres and full acres between.
But back in the 80's we did get some tricker treaters and I worried so for their safety.
I believe the City Council addressed it telling parents to drive their children to each house.
We, also, have no door to door soliciting by law here.

He’s been doing it since 2000. Our neighbor across the street asked us after Halloween to keep it up a week longer because it made her laugh every morning looking at it having her coffee. She passed away unexpectedly in 2003 and we renamed it as the MaryLiz memorial witch and put it up every year. Neighbors will tell us when they pass our house that they get a kick out of that witch ! I also have a duck and cat statues inside my gated foyer that I dress in Halloween attire. And then we do it up on Halloween with lights, pumpkins, ghosts etc. One year we were out of town for Halloween and some kids told me they missed our decorations!

quickly, and I refuse to buy plastic decorations. I do love to bake pies from fresh pumpkins and roast the yummy seeds to eat too!

Halloween decorations. Last year I passed out candy as a witch. The green face scared some of the younger ones so this year I will dress as a female pirate. After the candy is passed out both my sons and my D-I-L and myself will head into town for our own libations. I might be 82 but I am still a kid at heart.

I figure I'm doing good if I manage to put up a Christmas tree. I wouldn't call myself lazy, but...OK, yeah, I'm lazy.
