I stumbled across a General Hospital play list from 43 years ago! (1983) on Youtube. It was like seeing old friends! (believe it or not, I actually still watch GH in its current version.)
These episodes were before cellphones, before the Internet, and I think even before DVRs. I was early in my career working, and I think I might even have missed these episodes because until I got a DVR, I was at work.
What floored me is seeing all these people from 40 years ago:
Steve, Jesse Brewer, Edward, Lila, Monica and Alan Quartermain, Robert Scorpio, Tiffany, Holly, Bobbie, Rose, Ruby, Amy, Stavros Casidine, (no Helena so far, which was last played by Liz Taylor!), and of course Luke and Laura. I'm probably forgetting some, but talk about memory lane.
I don't actually think there will be much interest in this, but just in case, below is a link to a play list which starts in 1983 when Laura returns from (2 years) being held by the Casidines. The reunions were sweet. Everyone is so darn young. Many of the actors are gone now, and some of them have passed, others left and came back to the current show. I have lots of time in my retirement for these kinds of trips down memory lane. I would love to hear if anyone else enjoyed this as I have.

(226 posts)Im 63 now. First started with Ryans Hope then All My Children. AMC was my favorite. I miss it.
Not embarrassed. Its a fictional story so what? At least it is not stupid reality tv. I blame reality tv for a lot of our present hateful behavior. It gave people permission to be nasty to each other other.

(583 posts)Of watching with my grandmother. Watched Off and on thru the years then I started up again in earnest about the time of Luke and Laura, and also watched the other ABC ones. Taping and watching in the evenings.
Somewhere in the 2000s, after the demise of One life and All My Children, I started drifting off, no longer recording GH but would occasionally tune when home, sick in bed. Never long enough to get hooked into storylines. Last fall I caught a couple of episodes of GH and it was nice seeing a few familiar faces, but made me nostalgic for the 80s, Luke, Laura, Scorpio, Holly, etc.
Soaps were such fun and am not embarrassed to admit I loved them. Also Loved the Soapnet network for the time we had it. Wish we had something like it now, only as a classic Soap rerun channel. I would subscribe to that. Would love to rewatch Ryans Hope, AMC, One Life, old GH, The Doctors, Days, Y&R etc.
And thank you so much for the link!!!!
