A house down the street from me burned down.

I didn't know the people who lived there, but apparently everyone got out alive.

It must have happened when we were away on Labor Day weekend. We didn't hear or see a thing.

It's kind of scary since our fire department is volunteer, and there are no hydrants on my block - we have wells - so they had to come in with tankers when they were able to get here.

Nothing of the house was left but for a brick wall.

This shows the importance of clearing defensible space in fire-prone areas, getting ember resistant roof vents, and if possible have a water source on the property clearly marked for firefighters to find, such as a pond, pool, or water tank with hose and pump.

There was a fire down the street from us a few years ago, but they saved the house.
A farmhouse a couple miles out of town burned about 10 years ago. That one ended up like the one you describe. Only the fireplace remained.
