I have an announcement.

FUCK THE DMV, FUCK THE BULLSHIT INVOLVED BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO. FUCK THIS ENTIRE THING.

There is no reason for all this crap. I just wanted an Enhanced ID. You know, like any other American whose family has been here since the fucking 1600s. However, this seems too much for our current situation. I guess I will just have to resign myself to not having a current ID, as everything they gave me in April, when I started this entire thing, is about to expire. I never seem to have the paperwork they want, usually because I have not fallen down the money hole and gone out and gotten all new paperwork solely because the states and the feds always need another cash grab.

This ALWAYS happens whenever I have to deal with the DMV in any state. Add to that the antiquated system this state has, and I am now in danger of being arrested on the fucking street because 'my papers are not in order'.

FUCKING GREAT!!!

(Face it, it is all a money grab. And, I have none to give them. I already paid for something they keep denying me. But, it is the government. What can I do about it? Besides blow my fucking head off, I mean? That's right... not a damned thing.)

but you do need paperwork to drive a car. License, registration, and insurance.

Personally, I've lived in, driven, and owned cars in six different states and never once had any problems with my paperwork. Lucky me.

This is in five different states. I have spent time preparing. Doesn't matter, I won't have the one document that is absolutely critical for whatever it is I am doing.

I have never, in forty-five years, had a decent experience in a DMV. Not. Once.

Doesn't matter what I do or what preparations I may make, it won't be what I need and they cannot do a thing without whatever it is that I don't have.

Maybe I need to clarify something, which I don't think I mentioned. I am trying to get an Enhanced I.D.. I was an idiot to think that, being a descendant of those who settled here 371 years ago, only ever having traveled outside of the country four times in my entire life (and those were all to the Caribbean... not exactly a 'world traveller' here), along with the only issue I have ever had with a drivers license in any state was one time that I had mine taken from my hand because a band member lied to me about paying for a ticket that I got driving the band bus on an expired plate, this scenario would not be such a chore this time.

STUPID ME.

And, I am probably not going to live long enough to ever travel again.

Even to my home. The Outer Banks will just have to live in my memory. I managed to go there and visit a few times in the last eight years, but that was when we had a much better living arrangement than we do now.

I miss it every day.

I checked the DMV website as to what paperwork and documents I needed. For the real ID, they had a list so I made sure I had a printed copy of just about each one so if one was rejected I had a backup. I had my birth certificate with me as well. I made an appointment, went in, took the driver's test on the computer (aced it), eye test, and they gave me a new license with Real ID.

I just made sure I had everything ready before I went in.

after three trips to the DMV with various documentation and I didn't have a bill with my name on it, they said they would accept a BLOOD DONOR CARD instead.

My sister asked her attorney boss to meet me there and I was helped right away. I don't even remember what he said.

They have changed a lot and most things are done online now but they can be ridiculous!

and I had it within 10 days. I recently moved and changed my address online. I received my enhanced DL with my new address in the mail 5 business days later. But the Michigan SOS is a woman and a Democrat, so things are running pretty smoothly here.

Condolences to you in whatever state you live in.

But, they can't seem to get a license done within 'six to eight weeks'. My last one took four weeks, and there was no issue with it.

This is the only state I have run into this delay since I was 16 and getting my first one. All of the ones after that were in my hand when I left the DMV.

after I received the email telling me how many weeks I had to renew.

When I got the new license, it had the gold star on it. Recently it was time to renew, so I got the email from the DMV, filled out the form, paid online and sent it in. Received in the mail another Real ID. I do not know how I got so lucky as to have that happen twice.

Mr YD however had to make an appointment and go in person. We already had birth certificates so he didn't have any problems.

We'll just have to see what kind of complications that causes if I ever have to fly anywhere.

I should probably quit procrastinating and renew my passport but if everything really turns to shit showing my passport to whatever "authorities" demand it might not be my best option.

In my imaginary universe I'd be one of those movie super-spies with multiple passports stashed away in various safe houses, same photo but different names and nationalities.

While the Republicans are in power I'm pretty much boycotting everything anyways so I'm rarely asked for my ID. When I have been asked to show my ID nobody has complained yet that it's not a "real" ID.

I had a piece of paper which was a 'temp'. In three days, I won't have anything that is currently dated. I will be denied some of my medications. I will have issues in many ways.

And it is their fault that I am about to lose this because this has taken FOUR MONTHS for them to tell me that they have an issue.

I have been waiting since April 30th!

I won't have any kind of I.D. after Friday. If this happens, things are going to go badly around here. Very badly.

I wish these chest pains would just go ahead and do their job. I can't afford to see a doctor about it, so I just hope it will be quick.

17. UPDATE: I dropped the attempt to get the Enhanced I.D..
Tue Aug 26, 2025, 10:02 PM
Aug 26

I will fight it out with them later.

I am still beyond furious at this blatant lunacy. But, that is the M.O. of our modern society.

Now to try and get my money back from the attempt. Any bets on whether or not I will ever see it again?

I want ahead and got my normal class D renewed.

However, an Enhanced I.D. would allow me to:
*Can be used to cross the U.S. border to and from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean, by land or sea.
*Is a U.S. citizenship document, in keeping with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
*Is an optional form of a REAL ID that can be used for domestic air travel and to access federal facilities.

So, now I cannot do those things. I doubt I will be traveling anywhere, but the documentation thing and being denied access to federal facilities is insulting. I cannot replace my Social Security card if I cannot enter the building where I have to go to replace it.
