I have one that has been consigned to our basement and I don't know what to do with it. I fear I will have to paw through it for some long, lost documents.
On the bright side, maybe there are some long, lost love letters...sounds like a project...

(12,149 posts)The files got shredded, mostly old invoices, purchase orders, regular office crap the cabinets we took to a metal recycling place and got some cash. Wish we kept at least one, could use them now. Oh well.

(14,935 posts)We go through every file at least once a year right before tax time.
We get rid of what we can and reorganize.
We have a rental so we have to be on top of all that.

(1,285 posts)One day, I had a hard time opening the bottom drawer so I yanked it and somehow it got off the rails and stays open all the time, so now the top one won't open at all. As I recall, the top drawer held old invoices and bills that are God only knows how old by now.
four 4 drawer cabinets holding client folders- off loaded the files to the organization my husband worked for. Paid a company to haul the cabinets off. Best thing Ive done to declutter.

(74,446 posts)We keep standard stuff in it, like invoices from paid bills & the like.
We have a fire safe for really important stuff, though.

(855 posts)I mainly keep stuff like taxes, medical/dental bills, car repair, and a few other things I think are important. A lot of the files I used to keep are now kept on my computer, on an external hard drive, or in my email accounts.
