I've seen it often enough to recognize the scene you posted: in lonely, loud Houston at the conclusion of the movie---right before the phone starts ringing in the little coastal village, perfectly ending the film. Gives me goosebumps, just thinking about it...

And the Mark Knopfler score… and a dream cast.
Local Hero is one of my five desert island movies.
Glad someone recognized that scene and it gives me goose bumps too.

That is the effect 'Local Hero' has on me.

Also known as farsickness ( sounds like the flip side of homesickness): longing for or being drawn to a place you’ve never been.

Reminds me of their schadenfreude (taking pleasure in someone's bad fortune).

It also has Martin Clunes in the role of a local doctor. A role that became the springboard for the Doc Martin series, according to interviews with the principals involved. Clunes' doctor in Saving Grace is less awkward than Doc Martin, but once you know, you can see the germ of the idea in the movie.

Repo Man is a 1984 American science fiction black comedy film written and directed by Alex Cox in his directorial debut. It stars Harry Dean Stanton and Emilio Estevez, with Tracey Walter, Olivia Barash, Sy Richardson, Vonetta McGee, Fox Harris, and Dick Rude among the supporting cast. Set in Los Angeles, the plot concerns a young punk rocker (Estevez) who is recruited by a car repossession agency and gets caught up in the pursuit of a mysterious Chevrolet Malibu that might be connected to extraterrestrials.

The vibe of this movie is as perfect as a weird little gem like it can get. Produced by Michael Nesmith.

I have the DVD. Saw it in the theaters with one of mz high school boyfriends and never understood why it wasn't a hit. It was a huge flop.
While you were sleeping was pretty big hit though -- I wouldn't call it little known...

It's allegorical so a lot of people disliked it because things didn't fit together like a normal story.

One of my favorite romantic comedies of all time

It's a true cult classic in that it was a cult classic even before it was released.
Only those of us who saw it on the old USA Night Flight were/are fans.

Two of my very favorites. Johnny Depp is outstanding in both. A very young Leonardo deCaprio in Gilbert--I personally think its his best career role.

Great cast altogether. Oliver Platt. CCH Pounder. Dan Hedaya. Julianne Moore is wonderful. Aiden Quinn is very sweet in it, too.

Academy Award foreign film. At a village railway station in occupied Czechoslovakia, a bumbling dispatcher’s apprentice longs to liberate himself from his virginity, oblivious to the war and the resistance that surrounds him.

I don’t think it’s ever gotten the credit it deserves.

It’s about food. And family. And dreams. It’s real good.

I recommended it to a lot of people and made some people watch it with me.

The Wall and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly are foreign films. Millennium is a Hollywood science fiction film with Cheryl Ladd and Kris Kristofferson. I read the John Varley novel before I knew they were going to make a movie out of it. These three films never show up on the cable movie channels I get on Mediacom cable. That is the criterion I am using to determine whether they fit in this category. Also the fact that nobody I know has ever seen or even heard of these three films. The first two films are among the best foreign-language films I've ever seen. Millennium is an attempt to make an intelligent science fiction film. I applaud it for the effort, but apparently a lot of people think it doesn't succeed. I disagree with them profoundly.

But ‘JoJo Rabbit’ is one of my favorite movies of all time.

A comedy about Hitler seen through the eyes of a young boy sounds like a risky idea. But it is brilliantly written and acted. Both funny and heartbreaking.

It was nominated for 6 Academy Awards, including for Best Picture (It won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay)

(All the musicians were real and actually played their instruments, except for Joey the Lips)

Jimmy's sister, Sharon, was played by Andrea Corr, and the lead guitarist in the "Avant Garde a Clue Band" (skating rink band) was her brother Jim Corr,.
Both of them are members of the Irish band, The Corrs.

An absolutely flawless German movie. It concerns an utterly vicious Stasi police agent in E. Berlin, and how his life is redeemed by the humane qualities of the people he's surveilling. Too many great scenes to recount, but one that sticks with me is when a room-full of Stasi operatives hear that the Berlin wall is coming down (after a few seconds of considering the enormity of what's happening, they all just put down their listening devices, stand up, and silently walk out of the room). One of those rare movies that makes you feel like a better human being, after you've watched it.

One that sticks with you for a long time after watching it.

This is the movie I was going to say. It remains in my top 10 favorite movies of all time.

It's an amazing film.

Both are comedies and have no redeeming value except to make you laugh.

It's a comedy/thriller starring very young Michelle Pfeiffer and an equally young Jeff Goldblum with a title song by B.B. King. John Landis directed the film and is featured as an Iranian terrorist. The film was released in the mid-1980s. I still have a VHS copy!

I happened to be on Rodeo Dr. and watched them filming some of the scenes.

I like you came to really enjoy that movie and I became a big Goldblum fan since.

Actually visit here daily since around 2002 just don't post much. Had a few posts under a different name years ago but didn't update my account when the site updated years ago.

I just watched it on Prime and have been telling my friends to watch it since.

True story. In England, during WWII, a research group asked people to keep diaries of their lives and send them to the group. Five hundred people did, including Nella Last. This 90 minute film from 2006, is from her diary during the war. Rich is the only way I can describe this film.

Two youngsters declare to their parents that they want to get married. Not sometime in the future but as soon as possible. The story is told from the children's point of view.

Great Soundtrack by the Bee Gees along with Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Teach Your Children Well" in the closing scene.

Soooo funny.

perfectly cast as the perfect gentleman. But the greatest pleasure comes from watching Anthony Quinn and Giancarlo Giannini in support. Full of people and a place that is easy to fall in love with.

A fabulous swash buckler with, still today, the longest sword fight on the big screen at over 18 minutes long! My family loves this movie just as much as The Princess Bride.
