Which movie remakes, prequeals, sequels are as good or better than the original

For sequels, I like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusades.

For remakes, I like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and the sequel Jumanji: The Next Level/

Especially the scene where Rigley enters the atmosphere processor to rescue the Marines! I could watch that every day!

I’m more into horror than action. Alien was a monster movie on a spaceship.

Star Trek II vs. The Motion Picture

Furiosa vs. Mad Max: Fury Road

Daniel Craig, James Bond movies vs. all predecessors (except for Connery movies)

I was talking with my honey about this last night. We need a good remake of Soylent Green.

Infinitely better than the original, which was just a poorly-made John Wayne showcase.

Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon nailed it, but Hailee Steinfeld was a joy. And only 14 years old!

1972's Ben was an improvement on 1971's Willard.

1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers was better than the 1956 original. Yes, the original is a classic, but the 1978 version is terrific.

1967's Quatermass and the Pit is a sequel to 1955's The Quatermass Xperiment and 1957's Quatermass 2. All three are low budget BBC sci/fi offerings, based on BBC TV serials. Quatermass and the Pit (released in America as Five Million Miles to Earth) is a pretty smart and tense movie, if you can get past the horrifically bad special effects. Sublime ending.

Star Wars: Rogue One is the second best of all the Star Wars movies, behind only The Empire Strikes Back.

There's an argument that The Godfather: Part II is as good as the original. The 1971 movie was a study in dichotomy, as we watch ruthless killers as devoted family men. The 1974 sequel takes this to another level as we directly compare the rise of Vito Corleone with Michael Corleone's struggle to retain power.

To wit:

Spiderman 2 > Spiderman
The Dark Knight > Batman Begins

Also, Thor: Ragnarok is better than Thor and Thor: The Dark World.
