Started having pain in my foot two weeks ago. Thought it was either that I'd maybe sprained it without being aware of it, or I was developing plantar faciitis!
Knew I had appointment today with my podiatrist who checks to make sure I am not experiencing any complications due to my Raynauds, so I waited. Told him how much it hurt. He said he wanted to take exrays because he thought right away it was a hairline fracture. The x-ray proved him right.
He said it wasn't because of trauma but post menopausal women bones get so thin they can just break without cause. I knew they thinned but I never realized they actually broke without an injury. He taped it up, and told me to leave it that way for a bit, and put a plastic bag on it when I shower. He also said to wear hard shoes from now on. There's nothing they can do apparently, but he said it will eventually heal on it's own.
He also said to make sure I am getting enough calcium.

Do you take a calcium supplemdnt?

(4,211 posts)Our bodies can only use 400 mg every 4 hrs, for a total of 1,200 mg / day for senior women, from what I have found on credible websites.
Raking more at once or exceeding the upper limit can have bad effects like high blood calcium level &/or kidney stones.
So what does my idioit dr do? Rxs me 600 mg/day in 1 pill, 1.5 yrs AFTER osteopenia diagnosis.

(20,503 posts)For several years, I was taking 1000 mg/day to supplement HRT meds, rec. by the dr. treating me for surgical menopause. After I heard that (on CNN) I reduced the supplements to a couple times a week. That was over 20 years ago, doing pretty good
