Do you qualify for German citizenship?

Feli dives into this question.. I have two friends who's mothers were from Germany..
They were curious and then this popped up.. An advertisement is in the vid for language learning...

My paternal grandparents were German, but they were not residents of Germany. They were in the Austria-Hungarian Empire. They came to America in 1920, since there was a lot of instability in what's now western Romania at the time.

Then after WW1 it became Czechoslovakia then after WW2 it was part of ruzzia then Ukraine.. uff what a mess.
