Are Easter Baskets Getting Out of Hand? if you got them, what was in your Easter Basket?

The Easter basket I got as a kid held candy and plastic toys.

Are Easter Baskets Getting Out of Hand?
Social media feeds are awash in images of lavish baskets overflowing with expensive gifts. Some parents are giving their children bikes. Others are pushing back.

“Is it even Easter if you don’t get a new bike?”

So asks Judy Newton, a mother of three in Philadelphia, in a recent video on TikTok.

In the weeks before Easter this Sunday, social media feeds have been full of videos of parents filling baskets with more than just the usual marshmallow Peeps. Instead, they are packing blankets, stuffed animals, shoes and knickknacks into large wicker baskets, tote bags or plastic buckets. And, yes, they are also giving bikes.

“When you see some people post their videos on social media, it looks like Christmas morning,” Ms. Newton said. “Now these kids are getting that for Easter.”

Ms. Stenson, 30, said that she gave bikes to her three children, ages 9, 7 and 4, for Easter last year. When she realized that she planned to get her children new Easter baskets and new bikes, she decided to combine the concepts — filling the bike baskets with colorful plastic grass, toys, books, stuffed animals and Easter eggs.

and some of those little chocolate eggs in foil, all nestled in that green cellophane "grass." Nothing fancy. We didn't get presents as such on Easter, just eggs and chocolate.

Like somebody said, when we were young, eggs were so cheap we threw them at the houses of people we didn't like.
Now, when I crack one I want to save the shell and return it to the store for the deposit.

In a really good year, we might get a chocolate bunny or some Peeps. But we did usually get new dresses and little hats for church.

It was the 1950s after all.
The Big Deal was not the basket: it was hunting the Easter Eggs in our front yard before going to church.
