The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just saw a program on a channel on my smart TV that shows people playing cards. I ended up crying.
One of the things I used to love doing with my Mom was playing cribbage.
We were pretty evenly matched, and we had fun playing.
Mom died 5 years ago.
Watching a couple people playing a match on the TV, I actually started crying, I sure do miss her.

(17,244 posts)Cribbage is my favorite fun and challenging card game.
Spent lots of time playing against other sailors in times long gone by.

She'd beat me about 2/3rds of the time.
I had the bigger vocabulary, but she'd been doing crossword puzzles for a pretty long so she could "see" spots on the playing for potential words better than me.
Oh, I miss her. Been almost 17 yrs (gah).
The pain was so fierce the first yr or 2, eventually it lessened a lot. Now it's a rare more intense feeling, but mostly a wistful sadness.
And a lot of wonderful memories I share w my sister, and others!

(22,761 posts)I come from a family of cribbage players. True story: I only had a hand of 29 once in my life, but I never got to play it. Even worse, I was playing my mom and she counted first to go out, leaving me BEHIND the skunk line!!!
A very memorable evening, but for the wrong reasons. But I did enjoy playing cards with mom. She's been gone 13 years.
