Debm55's post about childhood memories that would not be allowed today

spawned this memory of when I was a kid, and I wanted to make an OP out of it.

My dad had a huge dump truck that had so much crap on the seat (tools, old radios, newspapers, various metal parts) that it was actually dangerous to ride on that seat.

So what did he do instead of cleaning off that stupid seat? He used to tie me in the back of the truck, in the dump box, with this big ass greasy rope. He used to tie me up like a mummy so I wouldn't go flying out of the box if he hit a bump while driving to the dump.

This was in the late 60's. Can you imagine if that was done today? I can't...

Also, if my dad was at a stop light, and the light turned green and he didn't let out the clutch quick enough to get moving to the liking of the person behind him, and the person behind him laid on the horn...

My dad would calmly reach into the glove box and retrieve his gorilla mask, put the mask on, shut down the truck in the middle of the road at the green light, get out of the truck, lean against the truck, light up a Tiparillo, and smoke it through the mouth hole in the gorilla mask while waving at the guy who was beeping his horn at him and flipping him off.

Those were the days, those were the days.

And I never once got hurt...

I miss you, dad.

he would tie us both TOGETHER, and then tie us to the box, together. It looked like a bondage scene.

He was kind of known for smoking a cigar through a gorilla mask.
