The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo everyone on DU,
I'm home for the next week or so because my truck is in for her B service and a deep cleaning at the Phoenix Peterbilt facility, so, I decided to go out and check out a classic vehicle to buy and this is what I settled on... A 1963 Pontiac Tempest with the 389 CI engine, 4 speed trans, Posi rear end, it's a beautiful car, rides like a dream, lousy MPG, but I don't plan to make it my main go to car, so MPG isn't a real concern for me.
When I drive it around the city, I get looks all time, plus...it's a chick magnet.
I had a cop pull me over just to look at the car, we had a great conversation about classic cars, he has a 1968 Ford Fairlane Cobra that he had restored a few years ago, beautiful car.
Who here on DU has a classic car and what do you think of it?
Peace out
Danny.

(21,358 posts)with a couple burnt valves. I was 16. Pulled and rebuilt the heads, got it all back together, got it started
just purred, smooth and quiet.
An hour later it was totaled.

Accident?
Obviously, if you're still here, you survived.
Tempest's were one of the greatest Muscle Cars Pontiac built that's not really known for it's performance by those that really don't know that much about Classic Cars.
I hope you enjoyed it while you had it.

(441 posts)I will ask you. I have a 1990 Toyota celica. I start it up a couple of times a year but drive a 2011 civic. Is the celica a classic?
MarineCombatEngineer
(15,108 posts)Here is a great article on the Celica....

I've watched numerous TV shows about the Toyota Celica and they are desired vehicles to purchase for their longevity and style.

(441 posts)I don't need it or drive it but would hate giving up that car
MarineCombatEngineer
(15,108 posts)it's actually worth a lot of money and a fun vehicle to drive.

(1,765 posts)I don't have a vintage car myself, but there is nothing quite like the iconic appeal of the cars from the 50s and 60s. They had real character and uniqueness. You could easily tell the various makes at a glance. What an automotive era it was. Way back in the 60s, I did own a 1962 Ford Falcon and later a 1967 Chevy Impala. Great cars.
Best wishes and enjoy the ride!

(15,108 posts)was a great movie and, in this instance, was wholly accurate, but mine is a Fire Engine Red, obviously not the original color, but still beautiful.
