Sad Situation At a Local Humane Society

They were asked to take in dogs from a hoarding situation in a nearby city, by a couple in their 40s. The dogs were emaciated and the house was filled with feces. Turns out these dogs were infected with parvo and it spread to some of the other dogs in the shelter. The vets were unable to save six of them. The other 48 have tested negative.

The Shelter had to be closed to the public for 3 weeks so a deep cleaning could be done. The good news is they put out an urgent plea for donations of dog food, cleaning supplies, towels, and monetary contributions and the officials of the shelter say they are forever grateful for the outpouring of support from the community. They will be able to re-open next week as a result.

It's one of those situations that show both the worst and the best sides of human nature. The couple was arrested and will face a trial. I hope, if they are found guilty they will face some serious consequences and never be allowed to own another animal.

A close family friend had just adopted a lab mix from there a week before this happened. She is 4 years old and has a pronounced limp due to a past injury. She'd been at the shelter for 3 of those years. Luckily it's a no kill shelter.

I am so happy he was able to adopt her before all ths happened, so she didn't get exposed.
