Hey DU,
After more than a decade in Los Angeles County, we've relocated to the Palm Springs area following the Eaton Fire in search of a lower cost of living, new opportunities, and ultimately a safe place to live. Thankful the girlfriend's family home didn't burn down, but too many question marks on water and air quality to want to remain. The change of scenery is nice for now; we'll see about boiling hot summers.
Cheers,
Zach

(4,246 posts)desert. We just find everything to be so much easier than Los Angeles.....less traffic even in Snowbird season, easy to park everywhere, great healthcare. We are so much more social here. I think friends in Los Angeles don't get together very often due to traffic and just being worn out from living in L.A. Here we get together with friends at least every week.
Only a few downsides that we've found here:
1. No good Chinese food
2. No good pizza
3. Entertainment is somewhat lacking compared to L.A. The touring shows that come to the McCallum are not the same caliber as those that go to the Ahmanson or Pantages theaters in L.A. However, a lot of interesting acts come to the local casinos. We got to see Brit Floyd last June and it was awesome.
It's also just so beautiful here. When my sister visited from NJ last May she said this was the most beautiful place she had ever been to.
I've heard the same thing about there being no good Chinese food already. No good pizza though?
The venues here are definitely not at the same level as what you get in LA. In the last year or so, we saw Fever Ray and Modest Mouse. Planning to do some distance back-and-forth for such occasions already.
It's super beautiful here! I've been out here in the summer before and it's roasty

(4,246 posts)We compare it to living on the east coast during winter. They don't spend much time outside during the winter and we don't spend much time outside during summer, but unlike the east coast, our night times here in the summer are really nice and you can spend time outside floating in the pool. But I will admit when we first moved here and the 10 day forecast was for every day to be sunny and the high to be 114 or above, it was a little daunting. But thankfully our house has 3 commercial strength A/C units so we stay very comfortable inside!

(4,246 posts)I went to the movies in the mid afternoon. I think it was around 120 out. Just walking from the covered parking structure to the theater was difficult and made me think "I can definitely see now how people can die in this heat".
