The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI was selling a book for $20 on eBay and they asked for
my Social Security # for tax reasons. They used to have a lower limit of $600 annually before you needed to give them tax info. Because below that there is no requirement to report. I don't care if they want to take slaes tax from the sale, but I'll be Goddamned if I give my SS# to eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or any other online seller.

(1,542 posts)I wouldn’t ever give my SS#
NEVER.
IF was really required, AND If I wanted to make a ‘business’ of this,
That is multiple items to sell, hopefully a big sideline biz for me,,
Couldn’t you simply get a tax ID# for maybe a LLC you set up.
I would not bother with setting up a LLC ,,, unless you would/or were
expecting a few $1000s in sales a year,
Otherwise the cost to set up, and file TAXES separately for LLC
just NOT worth doing

(861 posts)That's why the used to ask for sales over $600. This is one sale for $20.
