MAGA Voters F-Ed Around. In 2026, They're Finding Out.
Happy New Year, although 2026 is shaping up to be less than happy for the 22 million Americans who have purchased health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
If we all agreed to call it Trumpcare, what are the odds that Republicans would extend healthcare subsidies to the tens of millions of Americans including many of their own voters who will suffer now that Obamacare premiums have begun drastically spiking?
There is something darkly comic about the way Republicans keep rediscovering that health care is not a metaphor. It is not an abstraction, not a talking point, not a culture war prop. It is medicine that manages cholesterol and cancer screenings and whether you can see a doctor without risking bankruptcy. And once again, Donald Trump and congressional Republicans are about to relearn this lesson the hard way by actively harming the very voters who sent them to Washington.
As of today, the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium subsidies that made health insurance affordable for millions of Americans have expired. Not phased down, not gently unwound. Expired. The result is a sudden and punishing premium spike for people who buy their insurance on the ACA marketplaces many of whom live in red states and vote Republican.

(10,183 posts)Either decide that the Democrats offer a better deal or that no matter what Faux Noise and Gnus Spax may tell them, its the Republicans who are screwing them over.
A lot of Democratic political strength once came from people who remembered the Great Depression and real hardship. As we know, a lot of that tapered off as they passed on. Many of the Gen X-ers and Millennials never felt what their forebears went through. Theyre now getting real time lessons, thanks to Conservative
ideologues and billionaire greed.
