"Now you can understand why Trump wakes up in the middle of the night sweating when he hears you and I are friends."

Julie Roginsky

Here is what is so utterly gross about tranche of emails released by the House Oversight Committee last week: really powerful people — people at the highest echelons of finance, academia, and government — continued to treat Jeffrey Epstein like a friend and confidant virtually until the moment of his arrest on July 6, 2019.

The friendships were bipartisan. Epstein palled around with Barack Obama’s White House Counsel Kathy Ruemmler and Donald Trump’s Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor Steve Bannon, who also served on Trump’s National Security Counsel for a short time. He traded emails with new-age doctor Deepak Chopra and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. He was the wing man for Clinton White House Treasury Secretary and Harvard President Larry Summers and palled around with Trump’s current Syria envoy and ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack.

Ironically, a New York Times journalist reported that Epstein described himself during a 2018 interview as a “pariah in polite society.” If only that were so. The people at the highest echelons of “polite society” — from Washington to New York to Palm Beach to Cambridge to Europe to the Middle East — continued to treat Epstein like one of their own.

The fact that he was a pedophile meant nothing to them.
