Lindsey Halligan's Lousy Faustian Bargain

Remember Jenna Ellis, John Eastman, Ken Chesebro? How about Chris Kise, Alina Habba, Sidney Powell, and Rudy Giuliani?

What, apart from low scruples and high ambition, do these seven have in common? They all became the subject of state bar discipline because of their work for Donald Trump. To put an even finer point on it, they were professionally sanctioned for going along with Trump’s dishonest and unlawful schemes. The sanctions have been serious, ranging from $1 million fines (Habba) to multi-year suspensions (Ellis), to recommended disbarment (Giuliani), to full disbarment (Chesebro).

Now there is a new candidate for the everything-Trump-touches-dies club, lawyers’ division. After his U.S. attorney nominee Erik Siebert refused to bring meritless charges against political enemies, Trump fired him and installed Lindsey Halligan, an utter neophyte with zero prosecutorial experience but ample willingness to cast aside legal and ethical requirements and do whatever corrupt act Trump ordered.

It was Halligan who reportedly presented the case against Jim Comey to the grand jury — her very first act as prosecutor. She also signed the partial indictment the grand jury returned.
