Trump Has Lost Credibility Worldwide, at Huge Cost

By confusing friends and foes, strategy and personal chemistry, posturing and resolve, the American president has made everyone less safe.

"Credibility, like trust and a good reputation, is hard to earn, easy to lose. It’s also ruinously expensive once it’s gone, especially in international relations. So it is no small matter that Donald Trump, eight months into his second term as US president, has squandered whatever credibility America had left in foreign and security policy.

The latest embarrassments occurred last week, when Trump fired off several zingers on the same day, causing world leaders to be by turns shocked, puzzled or — most devastatingly — indifferent verging on bemused. In a rambling speech at the United Nations, Trump offended not only that institution but also individual countries from Brazil to Britain. Later, he ad-libbed his latest reversal on the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

Kyiv, he said, could “fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form” because Russia looks like a “paper tiger.” This missive came a month after Trump rolled out, literally, the red carpet for Russian President Vladimir Putin; and after he first set, then shifted, then sheepishly dropped an ultimatum to Putin to enter ceasefire talks. In the months before that, Trump had variously blamed Ukraine for its own invasion and claimed that Kyiv held “no cards” and had to cede territory. And all the while, he has kept asserting that Putin would never have invaded if only he, Trump, had been in the White House in 2022."

At least Saddam Huessein had Baghdad Bob go out and make a fool of himself in front of the cameras... Donald? Do you just enjoy being laughed at because "no attention is bad attention" in your twisted, sad little boy world seeking validation and love from a father long dead and who never even actually liked you?

As a video catches foreign leaders laughing at one of the American president's mistakes, this was not an isolated incident.

As a video catches foreign leaders laughing at one of Trump’s mistakes, remember: This wasn’t the first time officials abroad used the Republican president as a punchline.

For all of his talk about global “respect,” he’s routinely seen as a joke. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

The reality, of course, is that Trump has wildly exaggerated his record, taking credit for resolving conflicts he had little to do with, and even pointing to wars that haven’t actually been resolved. What’s more, in a couple of instances, the Republican president has slipped up and pointed to wars that never happened in the first place, including an imaginary conflict between Cambodia and Armenia, as well as a recent boast on Fox News in which he said, “I solved wars that was unsolvable,” pointing to a conflict between Azerbaijan and Albania.”....

The mistake did not go unnoticed among the leaders of the relevant nations. Politico reported:

U.S. President Donald Trump’s geographic confusion was the butt of a joke between world leaders at a summit Thursday. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was filmed poking fun with French President Emmanuel Macron and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev at the European Political Community meeting in Copenhagen on Thursday.

“You should make an apology ... to us because you didn’t congratulate us on the peace deal that President Trump made between Albania and Azerbaijan,” Rama told Macron, as Aliyev was seen laughing.

Playing along, the French president replied: “I am sorry for that.”

Albanian PM Edi Rama mocked Trump to Macron: “You should congratulate Ilham Aliyev and me. Trump has ended the conflict between Albania and Azerbaijan”

Earlier Trump claimed he ended a war between Albania and Azerbaijan. It was a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

.....In 2019, for example, Macron, then-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson were recorded at a Buckingham Palace reception, apparently mocking their American counterpart. A year earlier, during remarks at the U.N. General Assembly, Trump bragged about how impressed he is with himself, at which point some of the diplomats in the room started audibly laughing........

For all of Trump’s boasts about how he has singlehandedly improved international respect for the United States, the evidence suggests many of his global counterparts see him as a punchline.
